《诗大序》在英语世界的译介与批评

摘要:

《诗大序》是儒家文艺思想的经典之作,自1841年第一个英语译本问世以来,英语世界对这一中国传统诗学经典的译介与研究不断丰富、深化。本文依据国家图书馆馆藏数据库、哈佛大学图书馆和亚马逊网站图书资源的搜索与统计数据,从中选取12个有代表性的译本进行深入研究。依据现有文献数据,英语世界对《诗大序》的译介与批评大致可以分为三个阶段:19世纪中后期,是传教士对《诗大序》进行神学阐释的阶段;20世纪,是西方学者运用各种理论对《诗大序》进行理论阐释的阶段;21世纪,《诗大序》的研究进入跨学科阐释阶段。英语世界对《诗大序》从忽略到发现再到重点阐释的过程,是中英文学和理论交汇与互鉴的写照,是中国文学和文论在世界文学场域中“折射”与“变异”的见证。

Abstract:

The Great Preface is a classic work of Confucian literary and artistic thought. Since the first English translation was published in 1841, the translation and research on this classic of Chinese traditional poetics in the English-speaking world have constantly enriched and deepened. This study selects 12 representative translations for in-depth study based on the search and statistical data from the National Library of China's collection database, Harvard University Library, and Amazon's book resources. According to the existing data, the translation and criticism of the The Great Preface in the English-speaking world can be roughly divided into three stages: the mid-to-late 19 th century, which was the stage of missionaries' theological interpretation of The Great Preface; the 20 th century, which was the stage of Western scholars' theoretical interpretation using various theories; and the 21st century, which has entered an interdisciplinary interpretive stage. The process of the Englishspeaking world's transition from neglect to discovery and then to focused elucidation, is a portrayal of the intersection and mutual learning of Chinese and English literature and theory. It is also a testament to the “refraction”and“transformation ”of Chinese literature and literary theory within the field of world literature.
